CrimeStoppers Scholarship Established at VGCC
October 8, 2025The 10th annual Granville County Crimestoppers Awards Banquet was held at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church on Tuesday, October 21, 2025. There were approximately 300 people present to honor officers of surrounding municipalities and to honor local businesses and individuals that consistently support Crimestoppers during 2025. The event was held in the fellowship hall of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and was catered by Family Diner of Oxford. GCCS members, directed by Jessica Laws of Creedmoor PD and Vicky Daniels of Butner, set up and decorated for the event. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Gloria Stovall of Cornerstone Christian Church and the Star Spangled Banner was sung by Evelyn Gouch. After the invocation by Rev. David Herman, pastor of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, the group enjoyed a meal of baked chicken, baked pork chops with sides and desserts.
After a welcome and brief history of the beginnings of Crimestoppers by John Flick, Board member, the Crimestoppers State Awards were announced by Irvin Robinson, a Crimestoppers State Association Board member. They were: 1) the Productivity Award (for most tips paid out for rewards in our population category); 2) the Most Innovative Fundraiser of the Year (the 8th Annual 2025 GCCS Golf Tournament held at South Granville Country Club), and 3) Board Member of the Year (John Flick, GCCS Board member).
Frank Sossamon, GCCS President, introduced the guest speaker, Dr. Sam Currin. Dr. Currin and his wife, Margaret, are Granville County natives. Dr. Currin graduated from Wake Forest University, UNC Law School and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest. Currin, an ordained minister, has served as U. S. Attorney and a superior court judge. He is a strong advocate for K-12 Christian education and encouraged everyone to participate in their government, support law enforcement personnel, and commit to strong ethics training of our children.
