August 29, 2024Granville County Crime Stoppers held its annual awards banquet on Tuesday evening, October 22, 2024, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church near Creedmoor. This annual event recognizes the county’s law enforcement and emergency services (E911) personnel for their outstanding service during the year.
The South Granville High School JROTC presented the Colors and GCCS secretary, Emma Black, led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Representative and GCCS President Frank Sossamon, led the singing of the National Anthem, followed by the Invocation, given by Rev. David Herman, the pastor of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. A delicious dinner, prepared by the Family Diner of Oxford, followed.
After a welcome by GCCS board member John Flick, GCCS member Irvin Robinson presented two North Carolina Crime Stoppers Association state awards. The Productivity Award was presented to the local Crime Stoppers organization in recognition of the number of anonymous tips received and acted upon based on the county’s population. Granville County Crime Stoppers board member Doug Herrin was presented the Association’s “Wesley Clark Award” as Outstanding Board Member of the Year.
Granville County Crimestoppers member Irvin Robinson introduced the speaker for the evening, District Court Judge Katherine Burnette. Judge Burnette provided an informative and interesting perspective on the legal issues of the day.

The highlight of the evening was the recognition of the outstanding officers from the local law enforcement agencies in Granville County. They were recognized by Crimestoppers and introduced by their respective chief, sheriff, or supervisor:

Oxford Police Department: Detective Donald Colbert presented by Chief Patricia Ford
Stem Police Department: Chief Mike Beal presented by Mayor Casey Dover
Stovall Police Department: Officer Zachary Lance Workman presented by Chief Craig Williams
