Human Body Located on Cornwall Rd

On 1/19/2023 at approximately 3:00PM the Granville County Sheriff Office was notified that what appeared to be a human body was located on Cornwall Rd by a litter pick-up crew.

Upon the arrival of deputies and investigators from the Granville County Sheriff’s Office the remains of a white male were discovered. Based on the state and condition of the body the SBI was requested to assist in processing the scene.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased male may have been at the location for a long period of time based on the condition of the body. There were visible tattoos still present that we feel will assist in the identification of the individual. There was no identification discovered after an extensive search of the area.

The GCSO, SBI and medical examiner were able to recover the remains and will conduct a thorough investigation into the identity and cause of death of the individual. As soon as the identification of the individual is made, the family notified we will then provide more information.

Out of respect for the family of the deceased individual we will not provide any further details until such time the the GCSO and SBI have determined our findings. There appears to be no risk to the community as it relates to this investigation. Anyone having any information of a missing or endangered white male are asked to contact the GCSO at 919-693-3213.
